Does anyone know of any dealers or places to buy winch based boat loaders? Something like this:
I think these ones have dealers in alberta. From what i can find reading on a forum i think i can loosely expect that one to cost about $1500 plus tax and shipping i am guessing too.
Does anyone have any experience with these and perhaps have a recommendation on the type to buy? I wouldn't mind if it was manual operation if the price difference was large enough but for a couple hundred bucks extra the powered ones would probably be pretty nice.
I am also thinking i could maybe build my own or perhaps get it manufactured locally a bit cheaper. A friend of a friend i am told has one that he built himself. I believe his is just roller bars on top and he has wheels put on his little aluminum boat and he rolls it over to the truck and then just lifts and pushes the boat up against the back rollers and eventually gravity brings the front down. He just straps it down really good then i believe. Does anyone have any thoughts regarding if this would be a decent system and if it would actually be significantly cheaper to get something like that made or do it yourself if possible?
I have transported a 12 ft boat just in the box of my truck but i would need at least two people for that (which i hopefully would have even with a rack with/without winch loader). It stuck out pretty far though because i have the 5 ft 8 in crew cab short box. My boat is 14 ft so it would be a bit worse. I believe the boat width would just fit with a inch or so maybe to spare but definitely be over the wheel wells.
My thoughts are if i had a loader like this or any way of transporting the boat on the truck without the boat trailer i could get a little popup camper or any larger camper in the future if i ever had the cash. It would be pretty awesome to be able to camp cheaply and still have a decent place to spend the night. I dont mind tenting and me and my buddys do it for fishing trips now but i find i prefer to spend at most 3-4 nights in a tent unless the fishing trip is so awesome and remote that tenting is the only way to experience it. I do however have a 2 year old boy now and i think i might get more options to go out fishing if him and my lady have a decent accommodation at the end of the night.
I am thinking another option if i get a pop up camper is to load the boat on the top of the pop up camper when it is it is all packaged up. This would probably be the cheapest and easiest but i would still need at least one helper to load and unload the boat i think... unless i maybe adapted the roller rack idea and put wheels on the boat. The boat is about 200 lbs i am thinking. I could just get my girlfriend to start working out lol but she is pretty tiny and we had trouble moving a large solid wood desk the other day haha.
Any advice or opinions are appreciated, Thanks everyone!
