First off, thanks for taking the time to join and post!
Unfortunately here in Saskatchewan we treat the common carp as an invasive species. They are very abundant in most of the southern waters in Saskatchewan. Shooting the carp episode at Last Mountain Lake was a real eye opener for me. Fishing for Carp was and is one of my most memorable fishing experiences! I will have to admit that before this episode I had, like many other anglers in Saskatchewan, not understood why this invasive species was so popular as a "game fish" in other countries. After this experience I had a completely new respect for this bull of a fish!
That being said, I do not see the regulations changing to protect this fish with limits and safe handling, they are said to destroy the natural fish habitat and their eggs. I am not sure how true this is because I am not a Biologist, but they have been in our waters for decades and the fishing here in Saskatchewan has been outstanding in recent years.
Yes we had a guide who has been guiding people from all over the world to fish this untapped resource. He is very professional and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a Carp fishing experience of a life time. The name of the guiding service is "G and S Marina" (http://www.gsmarina.com/).
I hope you have a great day!
